Switching suppliers 'may not offer energy customers the best deal'

Switching to a different energy supplier may not offer energy customers the best deal on their gas and electricity, an expert has suggested.

energywatch's Georgina Walsh has stated that moving to other deals offered by an existing provider may prove to be more cost effective for consumers than transferring to a totally different company.

The representative from the watchdog organisation made the comment to the Daily Telegraph while discussing ways for both households and businesses to cut the cost of their energy.

She explained: "Customers don't have to move suppliers to save money, they can often cut bills simply by moving on to a cheaper tariff with their existing company."

The UK's energy minister recently stated that he was concerned about the rising cost of gas and electricity.

Malcolm Wicks told the Press Association that he was "worried about the scale" of the issue and that no-one yet knows what level of price increases to expect in the coming months.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18652485-ADNFCR
